The undulating patterns that characterize images in this gallery are the result of deformation.
Smashing, squeezing, and shearing of rocks create alignment and folding of crystals
to give an idea of movement.
Some of these photos tell us of events of strong deformation, possibly the smashing of Africa into Europe to create the Alps.
